AJ Stanley is a multimedia artist working across print, animation, and ceramic sculpture. She earned her BFA in Media and Printmaking with a minor in Music Technology from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and holds an AAS in Animation from Bergen Community College.
Her work examines Trans embodiment, and the ways our relationship to gender is manifested through consumed objects, language, and systems of regulation. Stanley’s practice often uses multiples, sequencing, and material transformation to explore how identity is ritually assembled and perceived over time.
Alongside her studio practice, AJ has been shaped by New Brunswick’s D.I.Y. music scene, creating flyers for basement venues and bands. She performs as DADDY’S CLOSET, blending live funk + pop instrumentation and bedroom recording with experimental electronic production.
